Despite the fact that Grand Ages - Rome offers a wide array of multiplayer modes, the harsh fact is that even multiplayer games focus mainly on the city building aspect of the game.

'40,000 Denarii' is one of the multiplayer modes. It can be played either cooperatively (if all the players select the same team) or this game mode can be played by team division. Whatever team reaches 40,000 Denarii first wins the game. 'All Monuments' can also be played cooperatively or the teams can be split up. Whatever team constructs all the monuments first wins. If all players are on the same team you compete against the clock instead. Even 'Defeat All Barbarians' and 'King of the Hill' can be played cooperatively. The only game mode that forces you to actually combat is 'Last Man Standing'; in this game mode there must be a minimum of two teams before the game can be started. Overall, multiplayer in this game is slow and boring from an action perspective. Now, if you enjoy competing with your friends over who can build the biggest and most successful city, multiplayer in this game might be what you've been looking for. The maps are huge with plenty of room to expand.
