Harbinger is an action style RPG game that is set in space. Harbinger was released in 2002 and I decided to review it since it looked cool on the local Gamestop bargain bin shelf. The idea of a role playing game set in space sounds very promising for the fact that it implies that you will be exploring into the infinite and boundless ends of the universe. However, Harbinger is a game that takes place on a massive starship rather than space itself. Harbinger is a giant slave ship that prowls the galaxies seeking to dominate the universe. The game essentially takes place on this ship and one works against the many creatures that inhabit the ship during game play. A harbinger literally means a sign of things to come and the game itself revolves around the concept that one is able to manipulate the outcome of the play though choosing one of three distinct races. Harbinger was released by Silverback Entertainment and published by Dreamcatcher Interactive respectively. Although the idea of a set-in-space style RPG sounds very promising, the game Harbinger falls short of delivering anything more than a dungeon style RPG that mirrors Diablo 2 and Baldur's Gate.
