For a twenty dollar game, GTR Evolution, while not having the best sound or the sharpest graphics in a racing title, it was actually not disappointing; sure it has some corks, but for the price I’m willing to overlook them.

The sound will not impress you much; not because it is poorly done. It is actually done quite well. The reason why the sound is unimpressive is because this is not the first racing game to be released. The most important sound, as well as the most abundant one, the sound of the engines is done very well. But once you record the engine sound of a particular car (which has been part of the racing gaming community for a while now), the sound for the game is for the most part done. Add a soundtrack, some cheering fans, the sound of collisions and the voice of the announcer and you’re totally done with the sound in a racing game. But as I’ve said, the engine sound is everywhere, and since it is an authentic sound, a Firebird will sound like a Firebird in most recent releases. But if you’re like me you can’t race without the sound. At 150 MPH it is really hard to constantly stare at your RPM indicator to know when to change gears; I shift according to the engine sounds. The commentator’s job was pretty easy and he did a good job at that easy job; for example: “You’re running low on fuel.” is one of the comments that you get to hear. “Yellow flag, don’t pass.” is another important sound to listen for because if you don’t pay attention and you pass an opponent on a yellow flag you will get a stop-and-go penalty (a killer in the racing world).

As for the graphics, while they were all acceptable, nothing out of the ordinary came to mind as I was examining the looks of GTR Evolution.

When you thing of a racing game, odds are that the thing that jumps to your mind are the cars; some think of the tracks. In GTR Evolution, both the vehicles and the tracks are authentic. While the cars look really nice on the tracks or on the info screen, the same cars seem to have a really hard time crumpling up in a collision. That would be about the only negative aspect to this game; visually speaking. The tracks look good. I’m told that they’re real, but since I’ve never been in the stands at Nurburgring. But as far as I’m concerned, from a visual standpoint, the tracks look great.
