When it comes to handling, racing games tend to be either a hit or a miss. Some racing games are a hit on some controllers and a total disaster on others. Flat Out – Ultimate Carnage is one of the very few games to cater to all of their buyers needs; so whether your racing preference is a keyboard, a gamepad or a wheel, with this game you’re in luck since all three devices work great.

While the game falls in the arcade category, it is by far not arcadeish at all. The Automobile handling is superb, it is actually better than some of the so called racing simulators out there. The 48 cars available all have different statistics, they are all upgradeable, and they all handle just a bit differently from one another; some have faster acceleration, some have higher top speeds, some handle better than others and some are just ultimate crashers. The 48 cars are divided up into 3 racing classes; the Derby class is the slow junker-like vehicles, the Street class consists of faster cars with more upgrade options, and the 3rd and last class, the Race class contains the fastest vehicles in the games, and the cars in this class have the most upgrade capabilities of all the other cars.

Now that we got the cars out of the way it’s time to focus on the drivers and the tracks. I’ve mentioned in the sound and graphics section of the review that the tracks are beautifully rendered. You may be asking why would I talk about the tracks’ visual aspects in the gameplay and controls section of the review. The answer is quite simple: the tracks visual aspects go hand in hand with the gameplay. The tracks have 8000 objects that you can crash through and destroy. That is visual and gameplay cooperating together to bring an awesome racing experience to us. But we’re not alone racing on that 8000 destructible object track. In Ultimate Carnage the competition has been increase to 12 racers. Now you have 11 other people to wary about. Welcome to touch racing! Dirty racing is the name, winning is the game; in Flat Out – Ultimate Carnage you better do what it takes to crash out your competition and win, because if you give them the chance, the other racers will do that to you without a moment’s hesitation. Finishing in the top 3 positions grants you a medal, some cash winnings, unlocking of a special event, and possibly the chance to advance to new races or to unlock new vehicles. Wrecking into the environment and the competition gets you the much needed funds to purchase those new upgrades and new vehicles to race and cause carnage with.
