The sound is almost identical to the PSP version of the game released about a year ago. The graphics on the other hand are simply put … amazing.

It is probably obvious that I will spend some time covering the graphics, so just to get things moving along I’m going to quickly get the sound out the way. As I’ve said, the sound is almost identical to the PSP version of the game, but if you are not familiar with that version, the description will not help you much. I’m not saying that the sound is poorly done, it is actually quite well made. But racing games are limited to several factors. Engine sounds, crushing sounds, wrecking sounds, the crowd, the sounds of screeching tires and of course, how could I forget a soundtrack filled with fast-paced racing music. This game has it all, but it is an all that I’ve already seen. The graphics on the other had, they are a completely different story.

“Next generation graphics.” was what they said. I’ve heard them say that before. They talk a lot. Only in this case, they were right. Flat Out – Ultimate Carnage is a beautiful game. The cars, the tracks, the backgrounds, the 8000 crashable pieces in every level, everything that your eyes will encounter is outstandingly done. This game is truly beautiful.

I’m going to talk about two opposites: fire and water. And you may say … “Hmm… this guy is going to talk about something in a racing game besides the cars?” Yes, I’m not going to talk about the 48 gorgeous cars available for purchase in the game. You know why? Because they’re perfect. They look great to start with, and they crumple with great visual effects when that unfortunate crash happens. The tracks is where the fire and the water are. Crush things just the right way and a big fiery explosion occurs (great visuals). And when you happen to run across water on the tracks, get ready for some awesome visuals as well. But keep in mind, while the water may look great, if it gets splashed in your face by the guy or gal in front of you, focusing on the race will be much more difficult. So the fire and explosions look great, the vehicles look great, the water effects are awesome, the tracks look spectacular, and as a matter of fact, there is even a day/evening cycle on the tracks for added visual diversity.
