Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start. This code was first introduced over 20 years ago, and made famous by a game known as Contra. Contra was a huge success on the NES and Arcades and spawned a sequel, Super C.

Super C was good, although somewhat different from Contra. The original 3D-ish levels were dropped and a top down Ikari Warriors style gameplay was added in its place. This wasn't as big of a hit with many fans, but still an enjoyable gameplay type. Many hours of my childhood were spent playing these games.

Over the years, many sequels and spin-off games have happened within the Contra universe. Some have been great, and some have brought great shame upon the Contra name. Seeing the newest in the series named Contra 4 gives me the idea that it will go back to the original gameplay styles that made the classics so great.

Contra 4 is a Nintendo DS exclusive game. As many of the Contra games have been exclusive to one console or another, this really comes as no surprise. Hopefully this game will bring back the feel of the classic era of gaming, when many games of this type game out, but few truly shined as Contra on the NES did.
