Terratec Aureon 7.1 Space Surround Soundcard

Author: Tristan Kay

"Never before have I heard sounds as crisp as those produced by this card. Unlike the Muse 5.1 which had trouble dealing with assigning sounds to various speakers on occasion, the Aureon 7.1 expertly takes advantage of each point in a surround sound setup."

Gigabyte GA-8S655FX Ultra

Author: Stephen Cooper

"The SiS655FX chipset offered several new features, mainly dealing with that of the available memory configurations that the i875P and i865PE chipsets do not. Not only can you use different sizes and types of RAM with the 655FX chipset, but you can also retain some form of dual channel operation while doing so, something that is currently impossible with the i875P or i865PE chipsets offered by Intel"

Crucial Hi-Speed USB 7-in-1 Card Reader

Author: Hubert Wong

"About the size of half a deck of playing cards, and weighing in at a couple ounces, the 7-in-1 card reader can easily fit into most shirt pockets. Good aesthetics are key to any modern day gadget, and the card reader's brushed silver (it is made of plastic though) is a nice touch."

Thermaltake Xaser III Lanfire (VM2000A)

Author: Chad Unrein

"I don't think that Thermaltake was struggling to gain acceptance from the LAN party crowd; the company just wanted to make a bolder statement in the segment to compete more directly with the other cases out on the streets that are marketed to LAN party gamers. The Lanfire version of the already popular Xaser III series was obviously made for travel. It was made smaller and weighs about 4.5 kg less than its bigger brother, the Xaser III Super Tower. Obviously, this move was to make it a more appealing chassis for a LAN rig."

Aerocool Lubic-P3519 Customizable Computer Case Kit

Author: Roger (Hardware Reviewer)

"I am so torn (figuratively and literally) with this case. On one hand (the cut one), I hate it. I think the manual is absolutely useless. It is frustrating to have to unscrew pieces over and over again to slip in more sliders. (On this note, a word to the wise: slip in a lot of sliders on each bar.)

On the other hand (the unscathed one), I am actually looking forward to working on another project with this case. The thing is, the case is all about preparation. If you sketch out exactly what you intend to build, then you will be able to make excellent diagrams which will prevent a lot of the frustration which I experienced putting this case together. Had the manual been properly written, I would have had fun with this. However, I did not. Somewhere in this world, there is someone without any experience whatsoever trying to assemble one of these cases… and I know for a fact that each time they are having to unscrew a bar, they are that much closer to insanity."

Nuclear Meltdown .01

Author: Andrew Draut (NuclearRampage)

"When talking about the technology industry, it is almost impossible to leave Microsoft out of the picture. This issue's "Microsoft Department" deals with an innovative yet scary new technology. A new BIOS (Basic Input Output System) chip made by Phoenix Technologies allows an operating system, Windows in this case, to directly control the hardware."

Nvidia nForce 3: Soltek K8AN-RL

Author: Chris Tom

Soltek's K8AN-RL takes the crown as the smallest Athlon 64 motherboard to date for the ATX form factor. Purple is king here, and documentation and utilities are some of the boards strong points. Overclocking could be helped a bit with more settings, and we worry about the MHz not being properly set. We do expect the K8AN-RL to be one of the least expensive boards. If you are looking for a small and low cost Athlon 64 motherboard, and purple is a plus for you then look no further. Serious overclockers may want to look elsewhere however.

Plextor PX-504UF External High-Speed DVD+R/RW CD-R/RW Drive

Author: Roger (Hardware Reviewer)

"Well, as my wife said; "It's a very nice muffler."
Certainly, the unit is sleek and stylish… however few will pay for aesthetics alone.

The advantage of being able to choose either USB or Firewire makes the drive very versatile. The included software is fairly robust, though still user-friendly. DVD Builder is a great application for parents wanting to backup family videos. And the DVD+R format is still more widely supported by DVD-ROMs and home DVD players."

We all remember the battle AMD and Intel had over the first Xbox CPU. Well IBM has been granted the design win for Xbox 2. EBNS has confirmed this.

How’s that for making Xbox games several times harder to port? Will Halo 3 for PC be delayed 8 years after the release of the Xbox version?

Biostar iDEQ 200T Springdale SFF System

Author: Shane Unrein

"In addition to the small size, the iDEQ offers an awesome brushed aluminum finish and construction (except for the front bezel, which is plastic). I am a huge fan of aluminum cases and their typical silver color, so this fits right in with my tastes. The chassis consists of two removable side panels and one removable top panel, a design I prefer over the use of one big removable cover, like Shuttle uses with its XPC line (the SN41G2 for example)."
