XFX GeForce 6800 Ultra 512MB Video Card

Author: Tarinder

"You need to evaluate what you require in a graphics card. On the one hand, XFX's GeForce 6800 Ultra 512MB makes a compelling case as a cheap, relatively-speaking, workstation-class card, capable of running exotic displays. On the other though, and this affects the majority of potential buyers who tend to be gamers, you'd be better off opting for a single GeForce 7800 GTX or a couple of GeForce 6800 GTs in SLI formation. £470, then, will be either a snip or prohibitively expensive, depending upon your intended need."

Dell slides in with NVIDIA

Author: Steve

"Ever since the launch of SLi we have known that Dell has wanted to get 'in' on the action - but it was clear why they hadn't, NVIDIA only did AMD chipsets. However, since then we have seen the introduction of Intel P4 support on nForce4. All of the building blocks are now in place.

We suspect we will see the launch of a SLi based nForce4 chipset orientated solution from Dell with Dual 7800GTX's, finally their XPS Desktop range looks a lot more appealing."

While overclockers may want to steer clear with only an average feature set those looking to mod, or just wanting some more case real estate for watercooling can take advantage of the smaller depth. You won't find a board packed with extras, or high end hardware, or extra SATA ports. The bottom line is that the Albatron K8SLI is an interesting implementation of the nForce 4 SLI with a low cost, and small footprint that makes it stand out."

"Wacom is widely acknowledged as the top player when it comes to graphic tablets. In fact, you could argue that they are the ONLY choice when looking at high-end professional gear.

PowerColor X800 XL 512MB

Author: Rafal Zak

"Is bigger always better? Well it's fairly hard to answer this question with one sentence, but delving into the problem might give us some clues and ideas. I'm sure a lot of you've been waiting for a video card that will finally sport half-a-gig of RAM. Some will ask, do we really need 512MB's of memory on a video card? We sure will, maybe not this year, but it will definitely boost performance in applications that use very high resolution textures with additional FSAA turned on. I don't want to rant on this topic as it's not the right place and time, let's just see what we can squeeze out of this beast.

Okay, so what if I told you that in addition to 512MB's of RAM, our PowerColor X800 XL is passively (sort of) cooled? If you don't know what I mean, check out our PowerColor Bravo X700 review to see what I'm talking about. The XL version comes with a similar system, but greatly improved. The SCS2 (Silent Cooling Solution 2) is what keeps the PowerColor X800 XL cool and quiet.

For those not in the know Tul Corporation is a Tier-1 provider of ATI-based graphic cards. The company is also a leader in providing motherboards and barebone systems. So what about PowerColor?"

Biostar NF4UL-A9 Review, FX55 overclocked to FX65 speeds

Author: Chris Tom

"We have posted a review of the Biostar NF4UL-A9 nForce 4 Ultra motherboard. What makes this board unique is the AGP slot in addition to a 16X PCI-E slot.

Our last review of a Biostar board was when we tested their nForce 3 250GB offering, the K8NHA Grand. Today we are evaluating their latest board as they upgrade to Socket 939 and to PCI Express with the nForce 4 Ultra based NF4UL-A9. Unique to this board is the XGP port which is an AGP port that can be used instead of the PCI Express graphics port. First before we get into details about the board, and about the XGP port, we look at the specs for the board.

Also if you missed it we have posted our full report including benchmarks of our overclocking of the Athlon 64 FX55 to 3.6GHz.

AMD quietly updated the FX55 to a San Diego core a couple of months ago. With this core an improved 90nm process, SSE3, and tweaks to the memory controller were added. We quickly tested the overclocking ability of this new FX with high end air. We were able to reach 3.1GHz, but had to fall back to 3GHz for benchmarking. Now we add another tool to our overclocking arsenal as we utilize the Prometia Mach II phase change cooler to bring the CPU down to negative 40 degrees Celcius. Our goal is to push the CPU to new heights, and get the highest clock benchmarks we can."

Transcend JetFlash 110 1GB USB 2.0 Drive

Author: Shane Unrein

"If USB drives weren't so popular, companies wouldn't keep releasing bigger and bigger ones. I am glad they keep getting bigger and more popular. In addition to growing in capacity, USB flash drives are becoming more and more affordable. You can easily get a 1GB drive for less than $70. I remember just a while back when they were triple that.

Today, drives larger than 1GB are quite common. Some companies even have 4GB drives! For most people though, 1GB is more than enough for carrying around school or work documents. A couple of current trends in the USB drive market are making the drives physically smaller and making them easier to use (mostly by coming up with alternatives to the caps you see on most flash drives). Many people must have lost their drive caps in order for several companies to have developed solutions to this problem. One such company is Transcend, which released its JetFlash 110 series recently."
