The Matrix Online Version 7.3614 Released

"The latest patch for The Matrix Online contains substantial changes including hundreds of game improvements, bug fixes, animations, and sounds. Zion, the Machines, and the Merovingian continue their struggle to dominate the world of MegaCity as version 7.3614 adds new missions that drive the ongoing storyline of the Matrix.

Here are just a few of the items implemented:

  • Chapter 2.1 missions are now available for all Organizations.
  • Crafting an Item or Ability Code now costs $Information equal to the 1/10th the Vendor price.
  • Compiling Items in the Loading Area now costs the same as Compiling them in game (1/10th the Vendor price).
  • Players' affiliated Organizations now appear above their RSI when their PvP flags are on.
  • Players can now use the /orgnames command to view other players' organizations.
  • Players can now select the option to always display other player Organization names via the Options panel.
  • Tough- and Boss-level NPCs that con-grey no longer give XP. (They still give loot drops.)
  • Bug preventing players from equipping weapons when they've met the requirements has been fixed.
  • Enhancements on items that still had Combat Tactics upgrades on them have been modified to other bonuses.
  • Loot drops are now appropriately adjusted for the con-level of a defeated NPC. (Higher con gives better loot than lower con.)
  • Launcher can now institute a quicker recovery patch instead of always doing a full system check when a patch problem is found.
  • Players will now receive some XP for participating in missions they have already completed if they are part of a mission team with players who have not completed the mission before. (They no longer have to be the mission team leader.)
  • Improvements have been made to avoid players being unable to negotiate with servers.
  • Options preferences are now saved correctly when changed by players.
  • Players can now toggle the UI on and off. (Default hotkey: Ctrl + U) Items now stack correctly in the Code Archive.
  • Players can now generate a Zipped CCR abuse report that can be attached to a petition by targeting a player and doing one of the following:

typing /report in the chat window,

right-clicking a player's RSI and selecting Report Abuse from the menu, or

right-clicking a player's name in the chat window and selecting Report Abuse from the menu.

For a complete list of changes, fixes, and improvements to The Matrix Online in patch version 7.3614 please follow this link for all the details."

Sony Playstation Portable

Author: Nick Haywood

"Holding the PSP up against the DS and Gizmondo, I’d say that there’s more on the PSP for the older gamer. The WIFI function makes it an attractive proposition for mobile surfing if Sony do a deal with a UK based ISP with national wireless coverage. How many early teen kids are going to want to bother converting MPEGs to copy onto their PSP? Or music or photos for that matter? No, given the complexity of the PSP, it’d be better used and give more satisfaction the older gamer… say late teens onwards."

TrackMania: Sunrise

Author: Nick Haywood

"All in all, TrackMania:Sunrise is what I’d call a ‘coffee table’ game. It’s perfect for a quick blast and its pick up and play attraction with only the direction keys and reset key to worry about meant my 9 year old was zooming about after 30 seconds of tuition. Graphically it’s great with some nice visual effects and the music rocks my boat in a big sonic bow wave. It has a hidden depth in that fine control of each car type is essential in progression, but that’s hindered by the repetitive nature of repeating races over and over in order to get good enough to progress… Nadeo have done pretty much everything right here."

The Eidos take over saga

Author: Nick Haywood

"For anyone who might read the more high-brow broadsheet newspapers, there’s been an interesting wrangle going on that concerns us gamers. Eidos, that UK publishing house that brought us Lara Croft’s undisputed assets to delight our joysticks as well as big games such as the Thief series, Championship Manager and the soon to be released Lego: Star Wars, have been in a take over battle for the last two weeks following their announcement earlier this year of an operating loss of £29.2 million up to the end of 2004."

Auto Assault

Author: Miguel Lopez

"While it's not a huge surprise that Auto Assault incorporates many of functionality-based innovations introduced to the genre by games like World of Warcraft and EverQuest II, it sure is a pleasant one. And given the game's focus on minute-to-minute action, nothing else would really suffice. In civilized areas, for instance, quest givers are clearly demarked, and whether you're behind the wheel or on foot, getting a task is as easy as moving to them, commencing a dialog, and hitting "accept." Concessions were even made for those less prone to reading blocks of text: the quests descriptions have keywords bolded out, so as to make the particulars of the task at hand skim-friendly."

Doom 3 Expansion

Author: Brad Shoemaker

"It's been an eventful time for new releases on the PC. First up, we've got a full review of Resurrection of Evil, the expansion pack to Doom 3, which was one of the biggest releases of last year. Given how huge of an event Doom 3's release was, I was surprised by how quietly the expansion pack materialized on store shelves...just as I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it lived up to the quality of the original. Mr. Brad Shoemaker's review has all the details, so go check it out."

SWAT 4

Author: Bob Colayco

"SWAT 4, an excellent tactical shooter that's the sequel to one of the genre's most significant games. SWAT 4 and Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil are actually about as different as two games involving guns and a first-person perspective can be, which goes to show how far this style of gaming has evolved over the years. At any rate, if you prefer a little more forethought in your action games, then be sure to look into SWAT 4. Our guys were having a great time playing it in co-op, in particular."

The Matrix Online

Author: Greg Kasavin

"I filed my review of The Matrix Online, the latest entry in the extremely competitive massively multiplayer online role-playing category. I liked a lot of the ideas that the game brought to bear, but the devil's in the details with games such as this, and a lot of the details just didn't sit well with me. I warmed up to the game to some extent after my first 20-or-so hours, but I think games should take less time than that to turn fun."

AMD In Game Ads In Splinter Cell Chaos Theory

Author: Chris Tom

"Gamers who play high-impact games like Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory refuse to compromise on their PC technology, so our AMD Athlon(TM) 64 FX processor is a natural fit for the game," said Marsha Fatino, director of consumer marketing strategy at AMD. "Gaming enthusiasts care about squeezing every bit of performance from their PC and we are reaching them through the game to promote mind-blowing 32- and 64-bit performance."
